Create your own challenge

Challenge yourself to get active for epilepsy, the ideas are endless!  Have you ever wanted to cycle from Brisbane to the Cape, walk from Toowoomba to Dalby, soar to dizzying heights with indoor sky-diving, swim laps the distance of the English Channel, or simply push yourself to squat, burpee, lunge, or jazzercize for a whole month?   Raising funds and awareness for epilepsy is a great reason to do it.

The harder the feat, the bigger the donations you’ll get.

Join an organised race

There are races, fun-runs and events all over Queensland that you can join to get active and fundraise for epilepsy. From walks, runs, swims, and cycles to obstacle courses, and stair challenges, there is sure to be one for you.

Enter the race/event separately first, then create your fundraising page here in 3 easy steps ready to share with your friends and family.

Ask for donations for completing your challenge, or $5 for every km you conquer, or set a target time and ask for $5 for every minute you’re early.

Get your local sports club involved

Are you already part of a sporting team?  Do you play touch footy for fun, or are you a competitive netballer?  Do you leisurely play a round of golf, or is soccer a way of life for you?   Ask your team or club to fundraise with one of it’s games/rounds of the season. 

You could have all teams wear purple socks for epilepsy, just like Dalby Rugby Union did in 2021 with their Purple Round.  With a local business sponsoring the cost of the socks, all teams from juniors to seniors purchased their purple socks for epilepsy to wear during the one round with all proceeds benefiting Epilepsy Queensland.  They smashed their target raising $2,822!

The Winnin family of six walked 5km around their local community in honour of their little epilepsy warrior, Maliyah. 

The Winnins have completed their challenge in 2018 and then again in 2020, raising a total $2,499! helping Queenslanders with epilepsy to live well.

In an effort to raise money for a cause close to my heart Simon decided to attempt something "fiendishly simple, yet brutally hard", attempting an Everesting.

The concept of Everesting: Pick any hill, anywhere in the world and ride repeats of it in one go until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mt Everest.

In his own words Simon shares, For me, this is riding up the steep side of Mt Coot-tha 45 times. This should hopefully take between 17-20 hours of riding. Cycling is my passion however when epilepsy has restricted me from driving it has also provided me with freedom to get from A to B.

Fortunately I am extremely lucky, my epilepsy is well controlled through medication although others can have multiple seizures everyday and their lives are severely impacted.

It is amazing how often when I tell people that I have epilepsy they share stories of family or friends also living with the disease. There is however a distinct lack of education in regards to what to do should a seizure occur, the varying levels that people can be affected and what we can do to support people and families.

Sian has been fearless trying to carry on her extreme sports life she has always lived for. 

Sian has always loved her extreme sports like Mountain Biking, Slope style skiing and surfing.  After her epilepsy diagnosis in 2019 and a roller-coaster couple of years, Sian experienced Tonic Clonic Seizures and absent seizures making it dangerous and hard for her to continue on with her sports and everyday life. Finally with the right medicaiton, Sian is now back enjoying the life and sports she loves with her Dr's and family's support. 

Sian's Mountain Bike Challenge for Epilepsy raised $2,858 as she competed in a Gravity Enduro Downhill Mountain Bike Race.
