Liv’s Journey

By Olivia Hogan

I was diagnosed in 2016 with Epilepsy, after suffering a brain bleed at birth.
Flash forward 5 years and I have jumped through the hoops, have suffered a few more seizures and a few loses, but I have made it.
As it currently stands, I am almost 3 years seizure free
I haven’t let Epilepsy stop me in my tracks - I’m working a part time job in Childcare, got my license after many years of fighting for it, travelled overseas by myself, and have a whole new lease on life.

Please, if you could spare even a dollar, I urge you to donate to continue to fund the important research, and continue to raise awareness for Epilepsy!

Much love!
Liv xx

Update

Friday 19th Aug
Hi All,

I thought it would be about time to update the page with how everything is currently going with my Epilepsy management.

Unfortunately in February of this year, 2022, I suffered a breakthrough seizure about a week before I was set to hit four years seizure free. Emergency Doctors + Neurologists concluded that it was due to significantly low sodium levels, so after a medication change, I was back to normality!

However, on Monday the 15th of August, three days before I was set to return to Qld Roads and hit 6 months seizure free, I suffered another unexpected seizure, likely due to compounded fatigue from 2 weeks of little sleep.

What the future holds for driving is unknown. It's the last thing on my mind right now. What is on my mind, however, is why I continue to have breakthrough seizures.

Late last year, I became heavily involved in the Qld Powerlifting scene, and ended up competing in Old State Titles in May (10 weeks post Feb seizure). I am set to compete again in November this year, and at present, will return to training in the next coming week. The way I see it, I can't wrap myself in cotton wool - life has to continue & I can't let a condition I've managed for 6 years stop me now. I have more fight left in me.

I am grateful I came out of the seizure with minimal injury - only managing a swollen lip and bruising. I am lucky that I have an amazing bunch of people in my life that have been nothing short of amazing.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donations over the past year. It means more than words x

All my love,
Liv x
