2023 Fundraising Event

By Kiara

I am hosting a fundraiser to Make March Purple for epilepsy

Every 33 minutes a life is turned upside down by epilepsy.

I am raising funds for Epilepsy Queensland to ensure the epilepsy helpline can continue to answer every call for help. Did you know that up to 90% of Australians with epilepsy do not feel they have access to the support they need to live well with the condition? By supporting my fundraiser you will make a real difference.

This is my second year fundraising for 'Make March Purple' and this year I'm back to try and raise more awareness about epilepsy and the effects it can have on people's lives. Last time, we well and truly smashed my goal of raising $500, so this time, I'm aiming to raise $1000 to help support families with epilepsy.

I was first diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2021 and was seizure free for over a year until December of 2022. Whilst having epilepsy has put a few of my life goals and plans on hold (mainly getting my license) nothing else has really changed thankfully. Medication is currently controlling my seizures, despite there not being a reason as to why they happened. Whilst my story has a good outcome, for many other people it doesn’t and some struggle to find the real reason for their seizures.
Before I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I didn't know actually how many people's lives it affected, especially the lives of those who I saw on a weekly basis. This became one of the reasons why I wanted to fundraise, so last year a group of people at my school held an Epilepsy Awareness day, and we were very happy with the outcome. I look forward this year to raising more awareness about epilepsy!
Thank you for taking time to donate as this cause is something close to mine and my families hearts!
